Seoul, Tokyo can cooperate on energy: South Korea finance minister

U.S. allies look for ways to team up now that diplomatic ties are on the mend

South Korean Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho says U.S.-China tensions and North Korean aggression make close ties with Japan even more crucial.

INCHEON, South Korea -- South Korea's top economic official flagged liquid natural gas (LNG) cooperation as another area where his country can work more closely with Japan as the two sides repair their relations.

Choo Kyung-ho, South Korea's deputy prime minister and minister of economy and finance, said similarities between the countries' energy needs make LNG a natural area where they can find common ground.
