DALIAN, China/SEOUL/HANOI -- From China to Vietnam, Asian countries initially considered among the most successful in the world at curbing the coronavirus's spread are now facing some of the worst surges anywhere.

China reported 6,886 new infections on Monday -- the highest daily figure since February 2020, when COVID-19 was raging through the streets of Wuhan.
