Japan-Update

KDDI operating profit likely climbed 15% in April-December

Higher data revenue, lower sales incentive costs lifted earnings

TOKYO -- Japanese mobile carrier KDDI is expected to report a 15% operating profit increase to around 770 billion yen ($6.85 billion) for the April-December period as communications revenue continued to rise.

In its mainstay au mobile service, data revenue grew about 2% on the year. The growth is slowing as the market for data-hungry smartphones matures.
