GE touts megaturbines for Japanese offshore wind farms

In shift to renewables, American company sets sights on growing market

The Haliade-X wind turbine boasts an output of 12 megawatts.

TOKYO -- General Electric will step up marketing of megaturbines for offshore wind farms in Japan, looking to gain a foothold in the nascent sector here as the company shifts away from fossil-fuel energy.

GE plans to sell the Haliade-X wind turbine, which boasts an industry-leading capacity of 12 megawatts. A prototype will be installed in the Netherlands in the coming months.
