HANOI -- Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong has withdrawn from day-to-day duties because of illness, the foreign ministry said Thursday, confirming speculation about the 75-year-old leader's health over the past several days.

Le Thi Thu Hang, spokesperson for the Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Trong had taken sick due to a heavy workload and changing weather.
