Japan-Update

Nomura Research Institute's first-half profit seen up 10%

But systems developer likely missed profit forecast

TOKYO -- Nomura Research Institute's operating profit likely climbed 10% to a record for the April-September half, thanks to solid systems orders by distributors and telecom operators.

But the Japanese systems developer apparently missed its first-half operating profit forecast of 31 billion yen ($276 million). Profit probably came to about 29 billion yen due to slower-than-expected recovery in orders from insurers and financial institutions.
