Toyota to slash price of steel supplied to parts makers

Costs declining for upstream steelmakers

TOKYO -- Toyota Motor is expected to lower its wholesale steel prices for component makers in the second half of the fiscal year amid falling costs of key steel making materials such as coal.

Prices are estimated to drop by around 5,000 yen ($45) in the October-March period. This is the first such price cut in a year and a half. Toyota will notify its component makers shortly.
