Suntory pours overseas whisky drinkers a nice Chita

Brewer chases bigger share as more worldwide find taste for Japanese spirits

Chita single grain whisky, from an Aichi Prefecture distillery, has appealed to Japan's young drinkers.

TOKYO -- Japanese brewer Suntory Holdings will bring its Chita whisky, a domestically distilled brand popular among young people, to glasses in regions including Europe, Russia and Asia starting this summer, accelerating the company's overseas strategy.

Growing demand for high-quality Japanese whisky has created a shortage of the spirits, limiting the amount available to export. The up-and-coming Chita label follows Suntory whiskies such as Hibiki and Yamazaki in overseas expansion.
