Japan-Update

Gym operator Renaissance lacked muscle in April-June

Renovation costs offset revenue lift from new members

TOKYO -- Japanese fitness club operator Renaissance likely generated an operating profit of around 600 million yen ($5.25 million) for the quarter ended June, roughly flat on the year.

Sales look to have climbed 3% to some 11 billion yen, thanks to new memberships at locations opened in Tokyo's Kitasenju area this April and elsewhere. But costs for aggressive renovations weighed profit down.
