Daiwa House plans 150% buildup in US rental homes

Japanese developer eyes LA, New York after Seattle project

OSAKA -- Daiwa House Industry aims to increase its U.S. rental housing units by 150% to 5,000 over the next three years, as the Japanese homebuilder seeks to make its American business into a core part of its overseas operations.

The Osaka-based company also aims to achieve sales of 100 billion yen ($915 million) in the U.S. In the current fiscal year ending March 2018, Daiwa House expects to log about 65 billion yen in U.S sales -- 12 times the year-earlier result -- thanks to the acquisition of local homebuilder Stanley-Martin Communities.
