Nidec to build A/C, robot parts factories in Vietnam

Japanese motor maker to invest $500m in coming years

OSAKA -- Nidec plans to open plants in Vietnam around summer 2018 to produce robot components and motors used in air conditioners and household appliances.

The facilities, which will be located at the same site, will be run by a subsidiary. But with a vision of turning Vietnam into an export hub like China and Thailand, the Kyoto-based precision motor maker will consider setting up its own Vietnamese operations, too. Nidec plans to invest a total of around $500 million in the country by fiscal 2022.
