Japan-Update

Pigeon's profit growth streak backed by Chinese e-tailers

Japanese company sells more baby goods through Alibaba and JD.com

Pigeon's baby bottles are gaining in popularity among visitors to Japan.

TOKYO -- Baby goods maker Pigeon is expected to report a 19% rise in group operating profit to just over 19 billion yen ($178 million) for the year ended in January, thanks to growing online sales in China and demand from visitors to Japan.

The figure would surpass the Tokyo-based company's forecast of 18.7 billion yen and translate into its seventh straight record annual profit. Sales likely rose 9% to about 103 billion yen, beating the estimate of 101.2 billion yen.
