Japan's Welcia seen hitting record operating profit

Drugstore chain helped by renovations, store openings, lower procurement costs

TOKYO -- Japanese drugstore operator Welcia Holdings likely saw operating profit grow 30% to about 24 billion yen ($216 million) in the fiscal year ended in February, as sales jumped thanks to store renovations and the opening of new locations.

The Tokyo-based chain apparently beat its guidance by more than 2 billion yen and logged a record profit for the second year in a row.
