TOKYO -- Residential land values in Japan have risen for the first time since 2008 thanks to ample financing and a recovering economy, an annual survey shows.

The average appraised value of select residential plots around the country was 0.022% higher on Jan. 1 than a year earlier, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said Tuesday. Values fell 0.2% in last year's survey.
