LG to build washing machine plant in Tennessee

Decision to build first US plant comes as Trump seeks investment

LG Electronics' dual-drum washing machine can clean two different loads of laundry at the same time.

SEOUL -- South Korea's LG Electronics has solidified plans to build its first U.S. production site -- a washing machine plant in the state of Tennessee.

A formal announcement could be made as early as Wednesday. Construction will likely begin within the year, with the facility projected to be in service in 2019. The scale and cost of the facility are still unclear, but it would initially make washing machines and could later produce refrigerators and other white goods.
