Royal Holdings likely clinched eighth year of profit growth

Rising hotel guest numbers made up for weak restaurant sales

Royal Holdings' Richmond Hotel chain was voted No. 1 in a customer satisfaction survey.

TOKYO -- Royal Holdings likely missed its pretax profit forecast for the year ended in December yet managed to log growth for the eighth consecutive year, as the Japanese group's popular hotels supported its struggling restaurant business.

Group pretax profit apparently rose 4% to around 5.2 billion yen ($45.7 million) in 2016, while projections had called for a 12% increase to 5.6 billion yen.
