Nitori's profit seen up 16% to new high

New Tokyo stores behind furniture retailer's 30th straight year of growth

Nitori opened new stores in prime locations in Tokyo.

TOKYO -- Furniture retailer Nitori Holdings likely enjoyed a 16% jump in group operating profit for the fiscal year ended in February to a record 85 billion yen ($746 million) or so, rising for the 30th consecutive year on the back of new urban outlets and reduced costs.

The Tokyo-based company apparently outperformed its profit forecast of 79 billion yen. Sales are believed to have risen 11% to about 510 billion yen, 10 billion yen more than projected.
