TOKYO -- Asahi Group Holdings is spending more than 10 billion yen ($89.2 million) to expand a group plant and build a major logistics center nearby, in a bid to boost in-house production and streamline shipments to better serve Japan's growing beverage market.

The group plans to start operating a third production line at subsidiary Calpis' plant in Gunma Prefecture in March. The project is expected to cost about 5 billion yen and will boost output capacity by 15% to 30 million cases a year.
