Japan-Update

Renesas likely won't see Intersil deal benefits until 2018

Goodwill amortization costs seen wiping out unit's profits this year

TOKYO -- Renesas Electronics' purchase of U.S. company Intersil, targeted for completion by June, is unlikely to boost earnings of the Japanese chipmaker until 2018.

The deal, which was announced last September, is currently undergoing antitrust screening by several countries. Under its terms, Renesas will purchase California-based semiconductor maker Intersil for about $3.2 billion.
