Japan-Update

Yokogawa Electric profit likely dimmed 23% from oil slump

Weaker sales abroad outweigh strong domestic operations

TOKYO -- Yokogawa Electric's group operating profit apparently slid 23% on the year for the nine months through December 2016, with sluggishness in the petroleum sector weighing on sales of control systems and devices for oil rigs.

The Japanese engineering company is expected to report about 23.5 billion yen ($207 million) in black ink for the period. Sales likely dipped roughly 7% to 280 billion yen or so.
