Tepco, NTT plan emergency-power venture in Japan

Telecom company's batteries would supply buildings during outage

TOKYO -- Nippon Telegraph and Telephone will team with Tokyo Electric Power Co. Holdings to offer an emergency supply of electricity to buildings and public facilities during power outages.

The companies will form a joint business as early as spring, combining their expertise in power supply control and information technology to offer the service for building reconstruction or redevelopment projects.
