ETF values total 20% of Japan's investment trusts

BOJ purchases, overseas investors send funds to record totals

TOKYO -- Japanese exchange-traded funds surpassed 20 trillion yen ($170 billion) in net asset value this month for the first time, accounting for 20% of that for all publicly offered investment trusts, thanks to growing trade by overseas investors and a boost in purchases by the Bank of Japan.

ETFs, which are listed and can be traded like stocks, often are tied to indexes such as the Nikkei Stock Average.
