Noodle chain Hiday Hidaka seen serving new record profit

Cocktail sales helping lift earnings to another high

Specialty food restaurant operators such as Hiday Hidaka that coped well with consumers' growing frugality could not escape the blow from typhoons.

TOKYO -- Ramen chain operator Hiday Hidaka likely slurped up around 3.7 billion yen ($31.3 million) in operating profit for the March-November period, a record for the third year running, thanks to strong liquor sales and reduced costs.

The Japanese company's sales apparently grew 5% on the year to slightly more than 28.6 billion yen, with a 4% gain in parent-only operating profit.
