Nippon Yusen seen topping interim profit forecast

Container-shipping business recovering ahead of three-way merger

A Nippon Yusen containership.

TOKYO -- Japanese marine shipper Nippon Yusen is expected to beat its first-half pretax profit outlook by roughly 500 million yen ($4.45 million), thanks to the global economic recovery and better order selection.

The company is seen with roughly 15 billion yen in black ink for the six months ended Sept. 30 in a dramatic upswing from the year-earlier 23.6 billion yen loss.
