NTT Data profit seen up 30% on public-sector business

TOKYO -- NTT Data's group operating profit likely jumped 30% on the year to about 40 billion yen ($381 million) for the six months ended in September amid brisk demand for system development for logistics companies and government agencies.

Sales apparently grew 5% to roughly 780 billion yen on growing demand from the retail and service industries for "omnichannel" systems to link brick-and-mortar stores with online operations. The Japanese provider of information technology services also received an influx of inquiries from the public sector related to the My Number national identification system. An aggressive acquisition strategy contributed to revenue overseas.
