Japan's ruling party to extend leadership terms to 9 years

TOKYO -- Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party decided on Tuesday to extend the terms of the party's president, now restricted to two consecutive three-year terms, to three consecutive terms, sources said.

The proposal will be submitted by Masahiko Komura, LDP vice president, who heads the party's Headquarters for Party and Political System Reform Implementation, to the headquarters' plenary session to be held on Wednesday.
