Seven & i keeps departing chairman in orbit after all

A 7-Eleven store in Japan.

TOKYO -- After some twists and turns, Seven & i Holdings has decided to offer the post of honorary adviser to Chairman and CEO Toshifumi Suzuki, who will step down from his current positions at a general shareholders meeting Thursday.

The charismatic leader has been credited with leading the meteoric rise of the 7-Eleven convenience store chain in Japan. He made a surprise decision to resign after his attempt to install a new management team failed at a board meeting April 7. Noritoshi Murata, who serves as president and chief operating officer, decided to step down in solidarity with Suzuki.
