South Korea ruling party deserted by moderate conservatives

SEOUL -- The results of South Korea's April 13 parliamentary election came as a surprise to many, even the country's seasoned political observers like Lee Sang-don, co-head of the People's Party's campaign.

Lee was amazed at how voters deserted the ruling party and flocked to the People's Party just months after it was founded by two politicians who had split from the main opposition Minjoo Party of Korea in December, creating a third force in South Korean politics.
