Has Thailand really tackled slavery at sea?

Thailand's fishing industry has been condemned for abuses by the U.S. and the European Union.

BANGKOK -- Thailand's fishing industry is hoping efforts to clean up its poor record of rights abuses will be enough to help it shed its status as one of the worst countries for human trafficking.

     In June last year, a month after the military staged a coup, the U.S. Trafficking in Persons report downgraded Thailand to Tier 3, putting it on par with North Korea. It was previously ranked Tier 2 watch list for three years.
