China's first Prize in medicine seen enhancing national prestige

BEIJING -- A Chinese scientist has been awarded this year's Nobel Prize in medicine, a feat that is certain to help China burnish its bona fides as a global powerhouse. 

     Tu Youyou, chief professor at the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, will share this year's Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine with Satoshi Omura of Japan and William Campbell of Ireland for devising therapies to fight parasitic diseases.
