TOKYO -- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will likely secure a deal to supply offshore wind turbines for a major wind farm expansion in the U.K., with the order potentially reaching 50 billion yen ($416 million).
Dong Energy of Denmark aims to triple the output of the Walney farm off central Britain to more than 1,000 megawatts. MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, a Danish joint venture of Mitsubishi Heavy, has been selected as a preferred supplier for 330MW of the expansion -- enough capacity to power 250,000 households. This would be the biggest such order ever for a Japanese company.
